Exeter Young Strings aims to provide a complete programme of string teaching from absolute beginners right up to grade 8.

We start with “Mini Music Makers” classes for 4 to 6 year olds.

We are using both the Dalcroze method and  “Jolly Music” as our core teaching material within our young groups. Your child will also be able to make their own choice as to which of the stringed instruments they would like to play in our taster sessions.  You may also take an instrument home to try for a small fee.

Once ready, children then go on to have one to one lessons in which they develop at their own pace and join in the next group up. We have several small chamber groups for players at all levels from beginners to grade 8.

We really believe in the value of playing with a few others, in what are called chamber groups. Chamber groups are a key part of EYS and everyone is encouraged to join one. You will be with people of your own experience and with friendly teachers – having great fun and doing stuff that you would never achieve on your own.
