Many of our members stay with us for several years and we are very proud to say that many of these  have continued in Music. Listed are just some of our past members.

Dominic Wolfendale

Dominic Wolfendale started playing with EYS as a senior member joining what was then “Obigato” which has since become “Obligato String Quartet” He has also worked with us as a chamber coach and theory teacher. Dominic teaches violin in several schools in Devon.

Flora Farquharson

Flora Farquharson joined Exeter Young Strings aged 4 as one of our very first Mini Music Makers. She then went on to play the viola at the age of 5 and played in one of our chamber groups for many years. Her third and main viola teacher was Rebecca Willson, also a past member and a very active musician and teacher in Exeter. Until recently Flora still played with Obligato String Quartet which had its roots as one of our senior chamber groups but very quickly evolved to become a professional group of musicians performing at various functions and giving performances at venues such as the Bike Shed Theatre.

Flora spent a gap year in India where she is teaching music at an International School. She is now studying the viola at The Royal Welsh School of Music and Drama.

Hannah Williams

Hannah started cello lessons with Kirsty Hugill aged 8 and soon joined the very first Exeter Young Strings chamber group “Mozart Music Makers”.

Hannah continued to play with Exeter Young Strings for many years and moved up to play with “Obligato” which started life as our top Senior Group and went on to become a professional group of players performing at functions and in venues such as the Bike Shed Theatre. Hannah still performs regularly with past EYS members and has given solo recitals.
